In Greek mythology, an immortal queen, Eos, fell deeply in love with a mortal, the Trojan prince, Tithonus. The two were very much in love and desired to spend eternity together

Eos persuaded Zeus to grant Tithonus eternal life, which he did, but Zeus did not grant him eternal youth

The ravages of time and age slowly devoured Tithonus' looks and health whilst Eos remained youthful. Tithonus was devastated but he couldn't die. Eventually Eos used her power to release Tithonus from his immortal prison, transforming him into a cicada

In this work I imagine both Eos and Tithonus as cicadas, singing int he warm Greek sun, sharing their love and song for eternity
